The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) today announced that the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) will begin to provide human trafficking awareness training as part of basic training courses at FLETC. The courses, which train federal law enforcement officers and agents from every Cabinet level Department, will equip graduates with the ability to better recognize signs of human trafficking that they might encounter in their routine law enforcement duties.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Enhanced Cybersecurity Services (ECS) program has approved its Commercial Service Providers (CSPs) to offer a new capability called Netflow Analysis, which will allow the CSPs to more effectively identify and analyze malicious activity transiting their customers’ networks.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) today announced a new partnership between the DHS Blue Campaign, the unified voice for DHS’s efforts to combat human trafficking, and Birmingham, Ala. Mayor William A. Bell’s Office to post Blue Campaign materials throughout the city in order to raise public awareness on how to recognize human trafficking.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and I are closely monitoring the snow storm that is hitting the East Coast and the mid-Atlantic region in particular, and are prepared to assist local officials as needed. In the meantime, we encourage the public to follow the warnings and guidance of local officials, and go to Ready.gov for further information on what to do before, during and after the storm.

On Jan. 25-27, Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas will travel to Israel. He will deliver keynote remarks on the Department’s cybersecurity initiatives and efforts to promote public-private partnerships at the CyberTech 2016 Conference. In addition, he will meet with a range of cybersecurity industry representatives to promote cooperation and information sharing with the private sector. While in Israel, Deputy Secretary Mayorkas will also meet with his Israeli counterparts and representatives from the Israeli National Cyber Bureau to discuss continued cooperation in cybersecurity, collaboration in law enforcement, and efforts to enhance border security.

Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson today met with the Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC) where he discussed a range of homeland security-related issues and swore in the two newest members to HSAC, Michael A. Nutter and Christian P. Marrone.
